What Is GYFTY Fiber Optic Cable?
GYFTY fiber optic cable is a type of non-metallic outdoor fiber optic cable designed for aerial, duct, and direct burial communication networks where protection against lightning, corrosion, and electromagnetic interference is required.
The name GYFTY follows the Chinese fiber optic cable naming standard:
- G = Outdoor fiber optic cable
- Y = Polyethylene (PE) sheath
- F = Non-metallic reinforcement (FRP strength member)
- T = Filled loose tube structure
- Y = Polyethylene outer sheath
Therefore, GYFTY cable means a loose tube, non-metallic, PE-sheathed outdoor fiber optic cable with FRP central strength member.
Unlike traditional armored cables such as GYTS or GYTA, GYFTY contains no steel wire or metal components, making it ideal for areas exposed to lightning, strong electrical fields, or environments requiring complete dielectric performance.
